Eleven Forty Nine Takes the Cake
 in “Cookies with Class” Competition  

Pastry Chef Jason Vieira’s “Homage to Thin Mint” wins FOUR awards
 at Girl Scouts of RI fundraiser& dessert competition on Oct. 15

WARWICK, Rhode IslandOctober 17, 2007 – One dessert for a good cause + 1149 =  one award-winning evening. Eleven Forty Nine Restaurant took home four awards for its “Homage to Thin Mint” dessert creation during the Girl Scouts of Rhode Island’s “Cookies with Class” dessert competition and fundraiser held at Johnson & Wales Inn in Seekonk on October 15. Eleven Forty Nine Pastry Chef, Jason Vieira’s “Homage to Thin Mint,” won first place in four categories - Taste, Presentation, Originality and Best Overall.  Proceeds raised from the event help support various programs, including those for at-risk girls in Rhode Island.

More than 10 area restaurants and caterers competed for the best dessert, using Girl Scout Cookies as a key ingredient. Channel 10’s Chef Frank Terranova of Johnson & Wales University was part of the entourage of celebrity judges, which included Andrew Shotts,  owner of Garrison Confections and Elsie Foy, owner of Aunt Carrie’s restaurant in Narragansett. Celebrity hosts included NBC 10’s Barbara Morse Silva and WHJJ’s Bruce Newbury. More than 200 people attended.

Growing up in a family-run café business, Jason Vieira’s passion for the culinary arts began at an early age. He began working as Pastry Chef at Eleven Forty Nine Restaurant in the summer of 2007. A graduate of the Culinary Institute in New York, Vieira has worked as Pastry Chef at Finch Tavern in upstate New York, Teaching Assistant at the Culinary Institute of America and apprentice at a Portuguese Bakery.

Named for its famed address on the East Greenwich and Warwick line, Eleven Forty Nine gives guests a distinctive city-dining experience in sophisticated suburban surroundings. The newly renovated, metropolitan-style restaurant is owned by culinary arts veteran, Tom Wright, and New England real estate developer, John Picerne. Rhode Island hospitality guru Rand Robison serves as General Manager and former Johnson & Wales student turned acclaimed chef Jules Ramos is Executive Chef.
